Women's International Championship Cup Finals This Weekend

This weekend will feature the championship match of the Women's International Championship Cup, a friendly tournament featuring four teams, two from Europe and two from the U.S. This will be the third edition of the tournament and Lyon (France) once again finds themselves in the Championship match after having won the tournament in 2019 and finished second in 2018. Lyon knocked off UEFA Champions League title holders Barcelona 3-2 in last night's semifinal thanks to a late goal by Melvine Malard.

Lyon has racked up quite the trophy case in recent years accumulating seven UEFA Champions League titles, 14 French League Titles, nine French Cups, a Trophée des Championnes, an International Women's Club Championship, the Valais Cup title, and the Trophée Veolia Féminin in addition to the 2019 International Champions Cup.

They'll match up against the Portland Thorns who reached the Final after knocking off the Houston Dash 3-1 on penalties. The Thorns feature a number of stars on the international stage including Canada's Christine Sinclair, the world's all-time leading international goal scorer (187 senior national team goals and counting). In addition to Sinclair, the Thorns roster also includes Americans Becky Sauerbrunn (193 USWNT appearances), Lindsey Horan (104 USWNT appearances), Crystal Dunn (122 USWNT appearances), and Meghan Klingenberg (86 USWNT appearances), and 2020 Finnish National Player of the Year Natalia Kuikka.

Portland will host the Championship at Providence Park following the Third Place match between the Houston Dash and Barcelona on Saturday.
